Frequently Asked Questions

What is InterART?

InterART provides a forum in which buyers and sellers of "Antiques and Fine Art" from across the world, can get together via the World Wide Web and do business. Unlike other services found on the web, we do not restrict ourselves to only doing business with dealers and antique shop owners. This site is designed primarily for the private collector, since nowhere else can they sell items from their collection with this kind of worldwide exposure, for a price they consider fair and for a really modest commission fee (also it has been our experience that they usually have the more interesting and exciting items to sell). Our clientele tend to be very successful business men and women with above average incomes.

Why would I want to offer my collection on the Internet?

There are several reasons as to why you would want to offer your collection on the Internet. Some of the most motivating reasons are:

Exposure. By having your antiques displayed on the Internet, it's like being in an Antique Show attended by all the users of the Internet, who otherwise would never have known you existed.

Contacts. By having millions of potential buyers viewing your antiques you are bound to make a few contacts that could be very beneficial to you in the future. As we all know, in the world of business establishing contacts is the key to success.

Cost. People who display their items on our service pay a fraction of the cost of advertising in trade papers, and magazines and can potentially reach a far greater audience than otherwise possible. On our site we display full color photographs along with a full description of the item.

How many people can view my Collection?

Potentially anyone in the world who has Internet access. These include many Businesses, Banks, Government Organizations, Educational Institutions and online service providers such as CompuServe, Prodigy, and America On-line. By 1998, some forecasters are predicting that there will be some 11.8 million Web users, clearly the Internet cannot be ignored as a marketing forum.

Why do I need pictures?

Even a great description of an item can only scratch the surface of what a picture conveys about that same item. Besides, most people don't like to buy items sight unseen. When taking pictures of your items, please read the Taking Pictures FAQ so that you take the best possible picture.

I don't know the dates associated with certain periods. How can I find those out?

Please read our Date FAQ it will provide you with all the dates you are looking for.

I don't want my address shown on the Internet. Can we still do business?

It is InterART's policy that unless you are a dealer who would like to advertise their business on the Web, all personal information (including addresses) is not to be displayed on the Internet. Why advertise what you own to the world only to attract the attention of a few unsavory characters to where you live?

I have a home page on another service. Do I also need to get one with InterART?

No, we do not provide home page space on our servers at this time. We would simply set up a hyper link to your home page and you would provide a link back to our service. That's what makes the World Wide Web so appealing, it does not matter where the information is stored, it is totally transparent to the user. However, you are still required to pay for the space on our pages just like anyone else who advertises at our site.

Is there anyone else on the Internet doing what InterART provides?

As far as we can tell, we are the only site offering these kinds of services which concentrates primarily on the higher end market and caters to the needs of private and institutional collectors. Of course dealers should not miss the opportunity to offer their antiques and fine art (or their services) to our collecting public who make InterART their favourite online antique source.
